The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has launched a resit examination program, allowing candidates to retake their West African Senior Secondary Examinations (WASSCE) papers as early as January and February 2025.

This was confirmed by WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, during an interview on JoyNews’ AM Show in Ghana on Sunday.

Kapi announced that WAEC introduced a new programme called WASSCE PC1, designed to allow students to improve their grades faster.

“Students who check their WAEC results and realize they need to retake one or two subjects can register online through our website or at WAEC-accredited internet cafés by 8th January,” Kapi explained.

The exams are scheduled to take place from 24th January to 15th February 2025.

To support candidates in their preparation, Kapi stated that WAEC plans to expedite the release of chief examiners’ reports. These reports will offer valuable insights into areas where students may have faltered and provide guidance on how to better approach their studies and exams.

“We’ve widely advertised this programme through banners, our website, and the results checker platform to ensure both students and parents are informed,” Kapi added.

He also noted that students whose results were canceled are eligible to sit for the WASSCE PC1 exams, provided they have not been banned for malpractice over an extended period.

Due to the limited number of candidates, the exams will be held in regional capitals. Prospective participants are encouraged to complete their registration by 8th January to take advantage of this opportunity.

WAEC is hopeful that this initiative will help candidates quickly improve their grades and qualify for the upcoming admission cycle, preventing any delays in their academic progression.
