The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) workers in Nigeria have called off their nationwide strike on Thursday evening, preparing to go back to work tomorrow across the country.
The workers have since Monday embarked on an industrial action bringing activities in their offices to a halt as they all including drivers, cleaners, and office assistants abandoned their official duties.
The strike action was in connection with two issues, one is the alleged reluctant of the management to increase the worker salaries by 30 per cent and the other is refusal to reinstate four junior workers allegedly sacked “wrongfully” at the Ikeja Zonal office of the examination body.

Now both parties have reached a win-win situation agreement on the former as they have now settled for 27.5 per cent salary increase across cadres while the later issue would be resolved outside the union.
Confirming the call off news to Nigerian Tribune on Thursday evening, the congress chairman of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), Mr. Kayode Ogunyega, said “Yes we have reached an agreement, which is a win-win situation this afternoon and based on this, all workers, who are members of NASU in WAEC across the country are now expected back to our duty posts tomorrow.
He added, “While we are preparing to go back to work, we await directive from the NASU headquarters concerning the development.”
He said the workers agreed to 27.5 per cent increment with the management instead of 30 per cent earlier agitated for to allow peace to restore in the organisation.
He praised all the workers for standing and support with the leadership of the union while the struggles lasted.
