The Ogun State Police Command says it has arrested a 26-year-old wanted cultist, Akibu Tikare, at the scene of a robbery in Ogijo, Sagamu Local Government Area of the state.
Tikare, who was alleged to be the leader of the Eiye Confraternity in the area, was arrested during a robbery operation between Gbaga and Kamalo s of Ogijo.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
Oyeyemi said the arrest was made by policemen attached to the Ogijo Division on Saturday, while Tikare was dispossessing his victims of their belongings.
The statement read in part, “A notorious Eiye Confraternity leader, who has been on the wanted list of the Ogun State Police Command, has been arrested by policemen attached to the Ogijo Division on Saturday, October 24, 2020, at a scene of robbery.
“The suspect, 26-year-old Akibu Tikare, was arrested following a distress call received at the Ogijo Division around 9.30pm that a group of armed robbers was operating between Gbaga and Kamalu areas of Ogijo and robbing people of their belongings at gunpoint.
“On receiving the information, the DPO, Ogijo Division, CSP Muhammed Suleiman Baba, quickly led his men to the scene with some members of a vigilante group, where the suspect was arrested, while other members of his group, whom he claimed came from Ikorodu and Owutu areas of Lagos State, escaped.”
