The National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools( NAPPS) has urged the government at all levels and other education sector stakeholders always to lend their support to teachers and motivate them in various areas that will help them for quality service delivery.
The National President of NAPPS, Yomi Otubela, shared this thought in his message to commemorate the 2023 World Teachers’ Day being celebrated today globally and themed, “The teachers will need for the education we want: The global imperative to reverse the teacher shortage.”
He congratulated all teachers, particularly in Nigeria, on the occasion, saying he is very proud to associate with them.
According to him, the work of teachers anywhere in the world is unquantifiable.
“They are the ones who prepare and groom our children to become great leaders in various spheres of life. Their profession is the mother of all professions. They contribute significantly to the academic world, the economic development and the society at large.”
“So, they deserve necessary support and motivation from governments and all other stakeholders.
“They need psychological support, mental wellness, job security, good remuneration, technological support, word of encouragement and among other so forth.
“That will help them to be able to perform their roles more effectively and for the benefit of the society.”
NAPPS boss, however, also asked governments at all levels, school owners, and administrators to make schools nationwide safer and more conducive for teaching and learning.
In its own message, the League of Muslim School Proprietors(LEAMSP), also commended the efforts of all teachers in and outside the country in building the nations.
The league’s General Secretary, Mr Fatai Raheem, who made the message available to Nigerian Tribune on Thursday, urged governments at all levels to always see and treat private schools as partners.
He said government could do so by accommodating teachers from private schools in their human capital development programmes and other activities that can lift them
He also urged every school owner, especially in Nigeria, where the cost of living soared each day, to improve their teachers’ welfare and remuneration packages to enable them to perform well in their jobs and other endeavours.
