The Department of State Services (DSS) has denied conducting a raid on the headquarters of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Abuja.

This is in response to the alarm raised by NLC, claiming that its headquarters, known as Labour House, was raided by security personnel around 8:30 p.m on Wednesday.

Responding to journalists’ inquiries about the alleged raid on the NLC office in Abuja, the Spokesperson for the Service, Peter Afunanya, clarified, “Please kindly note that the Service (DSS) did not carry out any operation at the NLC office in Abuja.”

Recall that  NLC’s Head of Media and Public Relations, Comrade Benson Upah, made  a statement that the Labour House was invaded by a mix of personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and unidentified operatives dressed in plain clothes.

“They broke in and ransacked the bookshop on the 2nd floor, carting away hundreds of books and other publications. The invading troop claimed they were searching for seditious materials used for the #EndBadGovernance Protests,” Upah said.

Following the incident, the NLC condemned the raid, calling for the immediate withdrawal of security operatives from its premises.

“The Nigeria Labour Congress condemns in its entirety this new low in security operations in Nigeria. The armed security operatives showed no legal document permitting them to invade the premises of the Nigeria Labour Congress at such an ungodly hour of the night.

“Even in the dark days of military rule, NLC secretariats were never invaded and ransacked by security agents. Today is indeed a very sad day for our democracy,” the NLC stated.
