A leading cleaning care brand, Hypo Homecare, in collaboration with the Oyo State government and 32 FM Ibadan, has carried out a major cleaning exercise tagged: “Let’s make Ibadan clean.”
The exercise was carried out at the popular Agbeni/Agbaje market, one of the largest markets in the Southwest, to keep the market clean.
The Commissioner for Environment, Mr Abdulmojeed Mogbonjubola, who was on ground to lead the exercise said he was glad to be part of the project because it was a combined effort in the fight against open defecation and to avoid an outbreak of cholera.
Oyo State has no recorded case as of now due to the governor’s intentional stance and drive for a healthy environment and lifestyle among Oyo State citizens, and by working with relavent stakeholders to make sure that Oyo State is free from from dirt, open defecation and unlawful dumping of refuse in the canal.
The commissioner also noted that Oyo State being ranked 10th among the dirtiest states in Nigeria saddens his heart and has assured that by 2028 with efforts of stakeholders and continuous sensitisation projects such this one, Oyo State will be one of the cleanest.
The manager of 32 FM, Samuel Akintan, who spoke on behalf of the radio station as co-collaborators in the project, said that this edition was the second; the first having been carried out out in September 2023. He said the reason for the project is to make Oyo State a cleaner space especially now that there has been an outbreak of cholera. He added that with the continuous sensitisation of the people in every community, positive results would be achieved eventually.
The Babaloja of Agbeni market, Abdulganiyu Abdulateef, expressed satisfaction with the excercise and thanked the organisers for bringing the project to them to safeguard their health and environment.
In his own opinion, Buchi Maduka, the marketing manager for Hypo Homecare, makers of Hypo toilet cleaner and Hypo bleach, said that they were not in the market to sell products but to add value to the lives of the people in the market – both traders and buyers.
According to him, it is no longer news that there is a cholera outbreak in the country especially in Lagos. “So the value we have brought here is to sensitise them on how to clean their environment and also correct the misconceptions about the application of the toilet cleaner so that they can achieve better results.”
Maduka noted that although they have been carrying out several rallies in the past and were still looking forward to more, partnering with the Oyo State government and 32 FM was a life-saving project to achieve a cleaner and healthier environment for all.
He appreciated the management of the market association for thier support in making the excercise a success and affirmed that Hypo Homecare is open and ready to collaborate with more organisations and social groups as long as its carries a message of cleanliness for a germ-free nation.
The commissioner open the excercise by joining the marketers and staff of 32 FM to sweep and cleanup gutters. The market environment was disinfected and toilets were washed. A Clean Ibadan ambassador award was also given to the neatest shop owners.
