The grandson of the longest-reigning Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Siyanbola Ladigbolu, Prince Siyanbola Oladigbolu, has pledged not to engage in any conflict with the Ooni of Ife, should he ascend the throne as the new Alaafin. In a statement celebrating the Ooni’s 50th birthday, the prince praised the peaceful nature of the Ooni, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, and emphasized the importance of unity among Yoruba monarchs.
“I will not fight the Ooni if I become the new Alaafin. He is a peaceful monarch,” Prince Oladigbolu declared, highlighting the deep respect and admiration he has for the Ooni of Ife. He noted several personal and professional similarities between himself and the Ooni, including the fact that both are real estate developers and that their mothers share the same name, Sidikatu Ejide.
Prince Oladigbolu expressed his appreciation for the Ooni’s responsiveness and humility, stating, “Whenever I message Kabiyesi Ooni, he responds immediately without excuses. I adore him. My last conversation with him made it clear that he is not just a monarch but also my brother.”
The prince, who is a leading contender for the Alaafin stool, dismissed any notions of continuing historical rivalries between the thrones of Oyo and Ife, saying, “Those waiting for the younger generation to continue a thousand-year-old rift should go and die. We shall be united.”
Concluding his statement, the crown prince of Oyo offered heartfelt birthday wishes to the Ooni. “I congratulate Kabiyesi Oonirisa on his 50th birthday. May you live long on your forebears’ throne. Happy, wonderful birthday, and may your years be long,” Prince Oladigbolu prayed.
The statement reflects the growing sense of unity and mutual respect among the younger generation of Yoruba royalty.
