The Rector of Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara, Professor Emmanuel Ufuophu-Biri, says no fewer than 30 academic programmes have been fully accredited by the National Board for Technical Education.
The Rector made the declaration in a chat with journalists on Friday at the sidelines of the Annual Academic Board Meeting and Luncheon event held at the School Auditorium, Otefe–Oghara, Delta State.
As regards security in and around the institution, Professor Ufuophu-Biri stated that the institution has had no challenges in that regard in recent times.
According to him, all the challenges that are rumoured to be happening in the school are actually outside the school environment, adding that the institution works closely with the government’s security agencies to maintain peace on the campus.
“We don’t have any problems in the Polytechnic. If there seems to be some challenges, they are within the surrounding environment.
“We don’t have control over that. But within our institution, we have full, total control of security, behavioural patterns of students, of students complying with the rules, and of staff doing what is right.
“For the past years, we have not had bad issues within the Polytechnic. We work strongly with government apparatus, security agencies, community leaders, the student union government and staff. So it’s always peaceful,” he enthused.
The Professor of Mass Communication and Journalism, who reiterated the institution as one of the best in the country, said the reason for the Special Academic Board Meeting was for the management and academic board members to show appreciation to the Delta State Government, board and staff of the institution for their efforts and achievements in the past academic sessions.
“The Delta State Polytechnic Otefe Oghara has full accreditation for 30 courses.
“So I want to assure our students that they are in good hands. I want to assure the parents that their children and wards are in one of the best Polytechnic and that they will graduate successfully.

“We also want to assure those who have the intention of coming to the Polytechnic that we have open hands.
“We have full accreditation of institutional programmes and our programmes are some of the best so they should come.
“Our graduates are doing very well outside. We have gone to national competitions where we have come first.
“We also have some of the best teaching staff in the country. Our staff graduated from some of the best institutions from within and outside the country.
“Some of our teaching staff are running PhDs, some already have, and some have masters so they are highly educated.
“We treat our students as eggs, because no students, no us; we treat them well. This is a moment of appreciation to God because it is not easy for an institution to get full accreditation.
“We also thank and commend the Governor of Delta State, Chief Oborevwori, Chairman, House of Assembly Committee on Education, Hon Charles Emetulu, Commissioner for Higher Education in Delta State, Mr Nyerovwo Tonukari Johnbull.
“I am reiterating what the Chairman, of the House of Assembly Committee on Education, Hon Charles Emetulu said when he visited the institution some days ago.
“Polytechnic is fundamentally for skills and ours is struggling deliberately and consciously to train students in skill acquisition so that when they graduate, they become self-independent and if they need to go into the labour market, they become employable and we’ve witnessed that.”
