Following the leadership crisis currently rocking the Anambra State branch of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), the National President of the Union, Comrade Ambali Akeem Olatunji, has called on the state governor, Prof. Charles Soludo to only recognised Comrade Adigwe Chikwelu, as NULGE chairman in the state.
Olatunji, who address a press conference in Awka, on Tuesday, over the leadership tussle, debunked publications making the round that the state branch operates under two leaders.
The NULGE President maintains that Comrade Chikwelu remains the only Chairman, dueling elected under the Constitution of the Labour Union, to pilot the affairs of the state.
He noted that NULGE has only one leadership, one union in Anambra state, headed by Chikwelu.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that NULGE in Anambra state, for some time now has been involved in leadership crisis over who is powerful politically, connected and most qualified to pilot the affair of the Unions in the state.
Speaking further on the development, the National President, said I am in Amawbia State today to put end to the illegality going on and to return our union to the part of progress.
“For some time now, we have watched the ugly situation going on in Anambra, whereby some illegal group, dissidents parading themselves as substantial leaders of the Union in the State without the approval or consent of the National leadership.
“The National leadership under my watch frowns on that illegality going on in the State. The illegal group are causing commotion and division among members of the Union across the 21 Local Government Areas of the State.
“I am here in Awka, to let Governor Soludo and the State Local Government Service Commission know that NULGE under my watch have duelling registered and certified by the law of the federal republic of Nigeria with our National Headquarters at No 26, Ajose-Adegun Street Abuja have only one leadership headed by Chikwelu in the Anambra State. So, Comrade Chikwelu is the only person the Union knows, Olatunji maintained.
The NULGE boss used the visit to commend Soludo for his continued solidarity with members of NULGE in the State.
The NULGE State Chairman, Comrade Chikwelu, in his brief welcome speech, while commending the National President for the visit, assured that he will keep doing his best to maintain peace and carry all members along in the scheme of things.
