I am writing to express my concern about the ongoing fuel shortage in Nigeria. Fuel shortage has become a major concern in Nigeria. First, it was removal of subsidy, now there is fuel shortage. How do we want Nigerian citizens to survive?
The government’s decision to remove fuel subsidies has led to higher fuel prices making it difficult for many Nigerians to afford fuel. With the increment and shortage, a lot of people have not been able to meet up financially. It has become a daily song of the citizens – no power supply, no fuel. Citizens are left struggling in long queues at petrol stations. They also face disruptions in transportation, and increased cost of goods and services. This situation has caused significant inconvenience and hardships for many citizens, affecting daily lives and economic activities.
The citizens of Nigeria need fuel to survive! What I mean is that fuel is essential to our day-to-day activities. It serves to provide a means of income for commercial drivers and commercial motorcyclists. Even people with decent office work need fuel to get to their workplaces.
The transportation and distribution network for fuel in Nigeria is inadequate and poorly maintained, leading to delays and shortages. Nigeria needs to prioritise investments in upgrading and expanding its refineries to reduce dependence on imports and ensure consistent and reliable fuel supply for its citizens.
