The Secretary of State of the United States of America, Marco Rubio, has declared his decision not to attend the upcoming G20 summit in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Rubio, in a post via his personal X account (formerly Twitter), explained that his job is to advance the interests of America and will not coddle anti-Americanism.
The G20 Summit is the premier forum for international economic cooperation. The Group of Twenty (G20), including the United States, United Kingdom, Brazil, Canada, European Union and African Union among others, plays a crucial role in steering the global economy.
While South Africa will host the upcoming G20 summit from November 22 to 23, 2025, the United States is scheduled to host the 2026 G20 summit.

Rubio further stated that the host of this year’s G20 summit is “doing very bad things.”
He wrote, “I will NOT attend the G20 summit in Johannesburg.
“South Africa is doing very bad things. Expropriating private property. Using G20 to promote “solidarity, equality, & sustainability.” In other words: DEI and climate change.
“My job is to advance America’s national interests, not waste taxpayer money or coddle anti-Americanism.”
Meanwhile, Tribune Online reports that the US government under President Donald Trump said he will cut off future funding to South Africa for “confiscating” land and “treating certain classes of people very badly” pending an investigation.
