In its latest bid to empower women and youth, the Youth and Women Empowerment Center (YOWEC) has launched a comprehensive skill acquisition programme, with videography and photography taking center stage.

The initiative, in partnership with the Ken-Idehen Innovation Institute (KIII), aims to equip underserved communities with practical skills in high-demand fields, including videography, photography, catering, agriculture, and IT courses.

According to Gloria Amonia Ken-Idehen, Director of YOWEC, “Videography and photography are essential skills in today’s digital age. We’re excited to provide training in these areas, enabling our beneficiaries to tap into the growing demand for visual content.” The programme’s focus on videography and photography is strategic, considering the rising demand for digital content, the growing importance of visual storytelling, and the increasing need for skilled professionals in the creative industry.

By providing training in these areas, YOWEC and KIII are empowering women and youth to pursue lucrative careers in the creative industry, start their own businesses, and enhance their employability. Scholarships are available for indigent students, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder access to quality education and training.

A beneficiary of the programme shared her experience, “Learning videography skills has opened doors to new opportunities. I’m grateful for YOWEC’s empowerment scheme.” As the programme gains momentum, YOWEC and KIII invite government bodies and organizations to support this initiative, promoting economic growth and reducing dropout rates in underserved communities.

The programme’s key highlights include practical skills training in videography and photography, financial assistance through scholarships, enhanced employability, support for small business creation, and community empowerment. YOWEC’s empowerment scheme is bridging the skills gap and fostering economic growth in underserved communities.

This transformative project provides life-changing opportunities, breaking down financial barriers through scholarships for indigent students. By equipping participants with valuable skills, the programme supports small business creation, employment opportunities, and reduced dropout rates. One participant expressed her gratitude, saying, “I have been looking forward to learning this baking skill, but I did not have the money to pay for training. This free training has helped me to learn this skill, and I will now use it to start my own small business.”

As the new school year begins, parents are taking advantage of the scholarships for underserved and indigent students. The programme provides students with a competitive edge in today’s job market. Government bodies in riverine areas are invited to sponsor students and support this vital initiative to reduce dropout rates and promote local economic growth.
