The program manager for routine immunization of the Zamfara State Primary Health Care Board (ZSPHCB), Mustafa Aliyu, has explained why the agency introduced market days immunisation in some communities, noting that such would improve Immunisation coverage in the state.
Aliyu revealed that they were worried by low immunization and vaccination exercise against killer diseases.
Speaking on Sunday at a 2-day media dialogue for Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi and Abuja journalists held in Sokoto, Aliyu said the new method was aimed at improving the immunization and vaccination of children in the state.
“Market day immunization and vaccination exercise was introduced in Zamfara State to further improve immunization coverage, we introduced market day immunization, where we gather children and give them immunization’”, he said.
Aliyu further said that a temporary task force on immunisation was also constituted for effective immunisation coverage in the state.
He lamented that the security challenge facing the state has hampered successful campaigns on immunisation and vaccination as a number of health facilities are not functioning properly.
According to him, the state government was doing everything possible in engaging traditional and religious leaders for effective mobilization of parents to support the campaign against killer diseases.
He solicited support of the media to collaborate with the state primary health care agency in educating parents and caregivers on the importance of the immunization and vaccination against the killer diseases in the state.
