The management of FREEE Recycle Limited has explained that the decision of the tyre-waste recycling and rubber manufacturing company to introduce a mobile application, FREEE App, was to address the critical issue of data collection bedeviling the nation’s recycling sector, and ease the challenge of tyre-waste collection.
Speaking with the media in Lagos, in commemoration of World Cleanup Day 2024, the Managing Director, FREEE Recycle Limited, Ifedolapo Runsewe explained that one of the challenges faced by the company when it commenced operations, in 2020, was that of incomplete data, or inability to authenticate the ones available.
She added that with the introduction of the app, and support of the company’s partners, FREEE Recycle can now get data to monitor consumption, and contribute to whatever data the company made available by the Customs or any other government agencies.
Runsewe stated that the company, which operates an integrated recycling and manufacturing facility that transforms scrap tyres into reusable and eco-friendly rubber moulded products, has also on-boarded some of its partners on the app, which is now being used nationwide.
Besides, she stated, the app also allows the company’s corporate partners and individuals, to initiate disposal of their waste tyres, with the logistics partners picking up the tyres and getting them across to its facilities.
She reiterated the company’s commitment to advancing Nigeria’s environmental sustainability through innovative recycling solutions and contributions to the circular economy.
“FREEE Recycle was born from a vision to address the environmental hazards caused by waste tyres in Nigeria. We saw an opportunity to transform this challenge into a solution and today as a pioneer in the tyre waste management industry, we have contributed to the country’s economic and employment growth.
“We’re also constantly innovating to improve our processes and products, by exploring new applications for recycled rubber that could open additional markets and create more jobs. By aligning our business closely with the SDGs, we’re not just contributing to global sustainability goals, we are also future proofing our business and demonstrating the viability of sustainable, circular business models in Africa and beyond,” she concluded.
