The Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, has intervened in an event titled “Unveiling the Power of Women and Food Security,” which was reportedly held without the ministry’s approval.

The event, organised by Mela-Chiyoma Pat Limited, took place in Abuja and was disrupted by the minister after it was discovered that the ministry’s name was being used without authorisation.

In a statement released on Thursday, Kennedy-Ohanenye explained that upon learning of the unauthorised use of the ministry’s name, she took immediate action.

The event’s organiser was subsequently apprehended by the Department of State Services (DSS) for alleged impersonation.

Kennedy-Ohanenye shared her actions in a video posted on her X (formerly Twitter) account, where she clarified that the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs had not sanctioned the event.

She emphasised that the unauthorised use of the ministry’s name constituted fraud and that the president had approved the cancellation of the event until further notice.

“There is an impersonating thing going on here. The Federal Ministry of Women Affairs did not plan this. The lady, I have arrested her.

“Right now, she is with the Department of State Service (DSS),” the minister said.

She further stated, “After we wrote that we were cancelling, the president approved that we should cancel until further notice; she still went ahead to print this thing.”

The minister expressed her disapproval of the organiser’s actions, noting that if the event had been arranged under the organiser’s own name without falsely affiliating it with the ministry, it would have been acceptable.

However, using the ministry’s name without permission was a serious violation.

Kennedy-Ohanenye made it clear that such misuse of the ministry’s name and reputation would not be tolerated and served as a warning to others who might attempt similar actions.

She concluded by stating, “I am saying this. Let the media cover it; I don’t care. You don’t do this. You don’t take the ministry for granted.”
