Yobe State Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew on three towns-Potiskum, Gashua, and Nguru, after protests against hunger and hardship descended into chaos.

The curfew, announced in Damaturu on Thursday by Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Brig.-Gen. Dahiru Abdulsalam, noting that the aims of the curfew is to stem the tide of violence and looting that has left a trail of destruction in its wake.

Residents have been directed to stay at home, while security forces have been deployed to enforce the curfew and restore order.

The move comes amid growing tensions in the state, with reports of violence and destruction of property in the three affected towns.

The state government has appealed for calm, saying the curfew will remain in place until further notice.
