A Yoruba group, Congress for the Rights of Yoruba Nationalities (CROYN), has congratulated Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress on his victory in the recently conducted presidential election.

The group lauded his dogged resilience and perseverance through his party’s primaries, during campaigns and the eventual election.

In a statement by its national president, Mr Abiodun Fanoro; and general secretary, Mr Tunde Ayenumelo, at the end of its executive meeting in Akure, the Ondo State capital, CROYN also commended “the two runners-up in the election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) for putting up a good fight.

It also commended other contestants in the election, including Alhaji Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, for abiding by the peace accord they signed to keep the peace, which it noted they had abided by as there was no breakdown of law and order after the election.

CROYN enjoined the political leaders to avoid inciting comments as they wait for the judiciary to address their grouses.

“We wish to laud the Omoluwabi role and sacrifices of some eminent Yoruba sons and daughters towards the actualisation of this dream, especially former governors Bisi Akande, Olusegun Osoba, Gbenga Daniel, Babatunde Fashola, Dr Kayode Fayemi as well as current governors Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State, Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State and Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, for demonstrating greater wisdom and love in the overall interest of the Yoruba.

The group also lauded the resolute determination by the 14 northern APC governors who it said demonstrated unwavering commitment to power shift to the south right from the APC’s primaries to when the election was conducted, even at the expense of their political fortunes and future.

It particularly singled out for commendation the “contribution of majority of the revolutionary G5 governors from the main opposition PDP, majority of who worked assiduously to deliver their states to Tinubu.

“We appeal to the Yoruba leaders who are opposed to the emergence of Tinubu to sheathe their swords,” it noted.
