Nationnewslead reports that Residents and youths in Iworoko-Ekiti in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local government area of Ekiti State on Sunday staged a protest against the delay in the appointment of the new monarch for the community.
The protesters who stormed the streets and market of the community in a peaceful demonstration, displayed placards with inscription such as ‘ All we are saying give us our king, ‘Iworoko belongs to all of us’, Iworoko youths are in support of Government decisions’, Governor Fayemi should intervene in the obaship tussle.”
They alleged that the lingering obaship tussle was caused by some cliques in the Faturoti ruling family, who wanted to usurp the leadership of the community by at all means.
The stool became vacant following the death of Oba Michael Olufemi Aladejana on January 16, 2020.
Addressing newsmen during the protest at the market square, the community’s Youth leader, Emmanuel Ogunturoti said frantic efforts by the government and the community to appoint a new monarch were being frustrated by Faturoti ruling family.
Ogunturoti stated that the report of the Irepodun/Ifeloun local government traditional council on the resolution of contentious issues over the selection of new Alaworoko should be upheld.
He lauded the roles being played by the State government to ensure peace and fairness reign supreme in the selection process, adding that no single family can lord itself over other ruling lineages.
The youth leader upbraided the Faturoti ruling family for challenging the process adopted by the elders of the community and council of Obas for the selection of the new monarch at the court.
He added that the ruling family had seen themselves as the only lineage entitle to the Alawaroko stool, the development he said does not represent the general will of the community.
He stressed that it was the turn of the other three lineages namely; Ogunkinle, Ojukaja, and Oguntuyi to produce the king since successive traditional rulers of the town had always been from Faturoti.
Ogunturoti, however, called on Governor Kayode Fayemi to intervene swiftly in the lingering Obaship tussle he feared may brew a serious crisis if not nip in the bud.
