The Zamfara State government has formally presented contract notification letters to local contractors to enhance educational infrastructure, as the chairman of the State Universal Basic Education (SUBEB) says he is committed to providing quality education in the state.
Speaking during the formal presentation of contract award letters on Tuesday held at government house council chamber in Gusau, Executive chairman Zamfara State Universal Basic Education Board (ZSUBEB) professor Nasiru Anka said the letters were presented to deserving beneficiaries in the state.
“It is my great pleasure to welcome you on behalf of the Zamfara State Universal Basic Education Board (ZSUBEB) for the formal presentation of the letters of award of contracts to our deserving beneficiaries.
“This ceremony marks a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment and effort to enhancing the educational infrastructure in Zamfara State under our committed Governor, Dauda Lawal.
“For the year 2023, we are pleased to announce that we received a Better Education Service Delivery (BESDA) reward totaling N6, 309,237,105.35. Where 3 new Tsangaya schools,15 blocks of 3 classrooms/office/store,10 blocks of 2 classrooms/office/store have been constructed.
“Also,152 blocks of 2 & 3 classrooms/office/store, 6 blocks of 8 classrooms storey building,16 learning shades have been renovated,9,420 2-seater pupils chairs have been supplied.”
Similarly, the State Universal Basic Education Board, is in receipt of the sum of N2, 791,569,918.25 for the 2023 UBEC/SUBEB Matching Grant intervention covering the 1st to 4th Quarters 2023. Where:1 new Safe school,14 blocks of VIP toilets,6 playrooms for Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD),4 blocks of 2 classrooms, offices, and stores, 13 blocks of 3 classrooms, offices, and stores, and 8 perimeter wall fences will be constructed”.
‘Additionally, we have scheduled renovations of 13 blocks of 3 classrooms, offices, and stores with existing verandas,new verandah 14 blocks of 2 classrooms, offices with existing verandas 11 blocks of 2 classrooms, office with introduction of 1 perimeter wall fence 3 four-pit VIP toilets and the renovation of 1 block of 4-classroom, office, and store 4,612 2-seater pupils furniture 242 teacher tables, 362 teacher chair 6 sets of ECCDE furniture ,6 sets of office furniture”.
According to professor Nasiru Anka,they have confident of continue to improve the quality of education and facilities in Zamfara State.
He said the Governor’s continued support and dedication are invaluable to the ZSUBEB as they we towards achieving desire goals in the state.
“Looking ahead to 2024, we have been allocated the sum of N3, 554,642,584.46 Matching Grant for the 1”- 4th Quarter 2024 from UBEC, which will be matched equally by the State Government .This brings the total matching grant for the year 2024 to an impressive N7, 109,285,168.92.
“These funds will be pivotal in furthering our initiatives to uplift the standard of education across Zamfara State.”
He emphasized the achievements recorded in the just concluded National Examination Council (NECO) gifted examination where Zamfara State came 2nd nationwide and first in Northern Nigeria.
“This recognition underscores the significant strides we have made in improving educational quality and management for the state,” he explained.
