The President and Commander in- chief of the Armed Forces, Muhammadu Buhari has commended the leadership of The Federal Polytechnic Offa, Kwara State for solving societal challenges through Covid-19 inventions and fabrications.
The President revealed this in a speech delivered by the Director of Polytechnic Education and Allied institutions, Mr. Adeoye Adeleye during the 11th convocation ceremony of the Polytechnic on Thursday 11th, 2021.
According to him, ” As I review past and continuous performance of the Polytechnics in solving societal challenges especially at the peak of Covid-19 pandemic, I came across initiatives and fabrications of some Polytechnics, especially, the ones from The Federal Polytechnic Offa. I must commend the leadership of the Polytechnic for holding on to the cores of the Polytechnic mandates.”
Speaking further, the President acknowledged that Polytechnics have become the flagship of technological development in Nigeria following the huge contributions made by Polytechnics to the society.
He therefore called on all the Governing Councils of the Federal Polytechnics in Nigeria to ensure due process in line with the established laws and other extant rules in the appointment of key officers in the institutions, adding that tertiary institutions are citadel of learning for academic as well as character moulding which requires the Council and Management to live by good example.
While speaking on the security challenges facing education in Nigeria, the President reiterated on the Government’s efforts in combating the challenges. He said his administration will not rest on its oars until Nigeria is safe and conducive for teaching and learning.
He however admonished graduands to put the knowledge acquired in the Polytechnic to the service of the nation and be good ambassadors of the institution.
