THE 2024 Annual Educare Trust oratory contest revealed the gems who are in public secondary schools in Oyo State.
With many people writing off students from public schools, the Educare Trust specifically focuses on providing opportunities for these students to thrive.
Speaking during the grand finale of the contest, the Programme Director of Educare Trust, Mr Raphael Afeyodion, said, supported by Bono Energy and other organisations, the annual oratory contest is aimed at bringing out the best in students of public secondary schools in Ibadan.
“We know that students from public schools do not really have different opportunities, and that is why Educare Trust is trying to build their capacities through the oratory contest and other activities,” Afeyodion said.
With the title of the contest being, ‘The Impact of Inflation on Nigerian Masses: Causes, Consequences and Solution,’ five schools participated in the final —Oba Abass Aleshinloye Grammar School, Community Secondary School, Sango; Emmanuel Grammar School, Orita-UI; Emmanuel College High School, Samonda and Anwaru’Islam Grammar School, Eleyele.
In the end, Emmanuel College High School came first, with its lead speaker, Glory Kena, winning the Most Valuable Speaker Award.
For her efforts, Kenu won N50,000, with Mr Afeyodion saying that the money should only go to funding her school items.
Chairman of the Panel of Judges, Mr Ebika Anthony, commended Educare Trust for its support for public secondary schools in Ibadan, while another member of the panel, Mallam Abdulsalam Mubashir, presented copies of his poetry collection to all the participants of the oratory contest.
