A socio-political organisation under the aegis of the Nehemiah Movement has expressed deep concern about the ongoing crisis rocking the Lagos State House Assembly following the remover of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, over alleged misdemeanor and his replacement with Rt. Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, urging for calm and a swift return to unity within the 40-member Assembly.

Recalled that the State lawmakers last Thursday stormed the Shangisha, Magodo office of the Directorate of Secret Service (DSS) to demand the release of their members, who were detained over their alleged role in removal of former Speaker Obasa, with reports of altercations being witnessed among members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), the highest decision making organ of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, over the removal.

Nehemiah Movement, Bible-believing socio-political movement, made this call on Sunday in a release issued by its Coordinator, Dr. Olusanya Awosan, copy of which was made available to newsmen.

The group, while noting the various allegations leveled against the former Speaker, Obasa, acknowledged the decision of the House to remove him by a clear majority.

This was just as it expressed the belief in the principles of accountability and transparency, servant leadership, and, therefore, urged all parties involved to uphold the highest ethical standards.

It called on Obasa to accept the decision of his colleagues in good faith and not see it as a set back, or the end of the road, “but rather a redirection towards new opportunities to serve the people of Lagos State,” saying that the former speaker should remember God’s words in Ecclesiastes 3:1 of the Holy Bible, which says, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.”

Besides, the group further called on Obasa to remember “the example of King David, who, when faced with adversity, chose to submit to God’s will as reflected in Job 1:21.

“The Nehemiah Movement, a Bible-believing socio-political movement, is deeply concerned by the ongoing crisis in the Lagos State House of Assembly following the removal of the former Speaker. As a body committed to righteousness, justice, and the peaceful resolution of conflict, we appeal for calm and a swift return to unity within the Assembly.

“We noted allegations leveled against the former Speaker and acknowledge the decision of the House to remove him by a clear majority. We believe in the principles of accountability, transparency,, and servant leadership and urge all parties involved to uphold the highest ethical standards.

“To the former Speaker, we offer these words from Ecclesiastes 3:1, ‘There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under the heavens.”

“While this removal may feel like a setback, we encourage you to accept the decision of your colleagues in good faith.

“Remember the example of King David, who, when faced with adversity, chose to submit to God’s will, saying, ‘The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord’ (Job 1:21). This may not be the end of the road, but rather a redirection towards new opportunities to serve the people of Lagos State,” the movement stated.

Nehemiah Movement, therefore, called on the current leadership and members of the House to embrace the spirit of forgiveness and reconciliation as exemplified by Jesus Christ, saying that they should extend love to the former speaker, who it said “is still one of you.”

“To the current leadership and members of the House, we urge you to embrace the spirit of forgiveness and reconciliation as exemplified by Jesus Christ, who said, ‘Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you’ (Matthew 5:44).

“Let this experience be an opportunity to rebuild trust and unity within the Assembly. Extend love to the former speaker, who is still one of you.

“Remember the words of Psalm 133:1, ‘How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!’

“The Nehemiah Movement stands ready to support the Lagos State House of Assembly in any way possible to facilitate a peaceful resolution and a return to its vital work for the betterment of all Lagosians,” the movement said.

“May God bless the Lagos State House of Assembly and grant its members wisdom, unity, and peace,” it prayed.
