Indigenes of Ewohimi in Esan South-East Local Government Area of Edo State, the hometown of Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the September 21, 2024, election, have pledged their support for him, promising a block vote from the area.

They assert that the frequent criticisms of Ighodalo and his deputy, Osarodion Ogie, stem from the opposition’s fear of imminent defeat, particularly from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The community members highlighted Ighodalo’s longstanding commitment to addressing local issues and providing essential amenities without seeking publicity. They expressed enthusiasm for his gubernatorial bid and assured their readiness to support him and his deputy through their votes.

They also accused the APC candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, of attempting to undermine Ighodalo’s community service and philanthropic efforts due to the looming threat of electoral defeat.

These comments were made in response to opposition claims that Ighodalo has never engaged with his Ewohimi roots and would therefore lack local support in the election.

Mr. Odion Samson, a community member, praised Ighodalo’s achievements in both the private sector and governance, expressing confidence in his ability to lead the state toward prosperity and development.

Mrs. Ailodin Itolo, another resident, described Ighodalo as a beacon of hope, citing his support for developmental projects and scholarships for students. She recalled his substantial aid during the COVID-19 pandemic, including the distribution of food supplies, and urged everyone to vote for him and his running mate.

“Itolo recounted, ‘What Asuelime did for us, only God will bless him. I went to his compound to cry for help, and he assisted me and my family. Now I can eat and talk. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he also helped the community, bringing more than three truckloads of food. We all prayed for his success in the September 21 governorship election.’

‘I enjoin everyone to please vote for him and his running mate because they have come to help Edo State,’ she pleaded.”
