The National Directorate of Employment (NDE), on Monday flagged off the training orientation of 100 youths on Sustainable Agricultural Development Training Scheme (SADTS), to boost modern Agricultural production in Taraba.

Danjuma Shehu, Taraba state coordinator of the directorate noted during the event in Jalingo that the programme was in line with the federal government policy on agriculture to attract empowerment through wealth creation and food sufficiency.

He also noted that the programme is to help provide more profitable farm income, promote environmental stewardship, and enhance quality of life of farmers and their communities.

“This programme is in line with the federal government policy on agriculture to attract empowerment through wealth creation and food sufficiency. The idea is to boost modern agricultural production, help provide more profitable farm income, promote environmental stewardship, and enhance quality of life of farmers and their communities.

“Our target group comprises of all unemployed youths from school leavers to graduates of tertiary institutions and people with special needs such as, disabled persons, albinos and any other persons who have passion for agriculture as an enterprise.

The trainees would be rigorously train in various aspects of modern agricultural production for a period of three (3) months with two (2) weeks of experiential training in both livestock and crops, while the remaining period will be used for the production exercise on the adaptive farm.

“The trainees would be given a monthly stipend of five thousand 5,000 for a period of three 3 months, while the resource persons for tutorial classes would be paid 10,000 naira. The training will be supervised to ensure that the training programme meets the required impact and to ensure that the resources provided are put into use for proper monitoring and evaluation of the exercise,” he explained.

Responding, Mr. Usman Zakari commended NDE for the programme and promised to make the directorate proud.
