In a recent testimony, Pastor Oluwasegunfunmi Oluwasinaayomi of Covenant of Mercy Church shared a remarkable story of forgiveness and divine mercy, emphasizing the transformative power of God’s grace.

According to the pastor, the church had been experiencing a series of mysterious thefts, including missing money and equipment. On one occasion, two dozen chairs were stolen, and the culprits remained unknown. However, the situation escalated during a vigil service when a young man entered the church and began stealing purses and phones from sleeping congregants. He was apprehended by the church members, who, in their anger, nearly beat him to death.
Pastor Oluwasinaayomi, who was away at another program, received frantic calls from his congregation, informing him of the situation. He rushed back to the church, only to find a large crowd gathered, ready to exact their own form of justice on the young man. Despite the intense emotions, Pastor Oluwasinaayomi intervened, urging the crowd to let the man go.
“Leave him,” the pastor told the crowd. “Was it not in my church he came to steal? Leave him!”
The pastor then sat the young man down and began to interrogate him. The thief, who had been stripped naked and was covered in blood, admitted that hunger had driven him to steal. Pastor Oluwasinaayomi responded by explaining that hunger was not an excuse for theft, especially in the current climate, where people are quick to resort to violence.
In a surprising turn of events, Pastor Oluwasinaayomi revealed that he, too, had a troubled past but had been saved by God’s mercy. “I don’t deserve to be among those ministering on the altar. It’s only God that forgives and saves. My hands were full of blood if not for Jesus Christ who saved me.”
Demonstrating the same mercy that had been shown to him, Pastor Oluwasinaayomi gave the young man a Bible and ₦20,000 before arranging for a policeman, who was a man of understanding, to escort him out of the dangerous area.
To the pastor’s amazement, the young man returned to the church during a Sunday service, asking why the pastor had shown him kindness. Pastor Oluwasinaayomi used this moment to teach his congregation about the power of God’s mercy, stating, “When mercy speaks, it terminates every past.”
Reflecting on his own journey, Pastor Oluwasinaayomi shared his struggles in the ministry, including times when he doubted his calling and considered leaving the ministry to pursue business. However, a scripture from Ecclesiastes 3:1 encouraged him to persevere, reminding him that “To everything, there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven.”
Pastor Oluwasinaayomi concluded his message with a call to faith, urging those who are struggling to remember that their time and season will come. “If you are doing the right thing but not getting the biggest break of your life, don’t be discouraged, Don’t give up. There is nothing wrong with you. Your time and season is coming.”
He invited the public to join his church for a special prayer session this Sunday from 5:00 AM to 8:00 AM and encouraged believers to share his message, promising to commit to three days of fasting and prayer for those who do so.
Pastor Oluwasinaayomi’s story is a powerful reminder of the impact of mercy and the importance of faith in the face of adversity.
