The Labour Party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, paid a visit on Saturday to internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi Local Government Areas of Plateau State. These areas had experienced attacks by armed assailants on Christmas Eve.
Accompanied by state party officials, Obi made a commitment of 5 million naira to each of the affected local government areas, where displaced individuals have sought refuge.

Expressing his dismay, Obi strongly condemned the attacks that resulted in the loss of lives and property. He emphasised the government’s duty to prioritise the protection of lives and property.
Furthermore, Obi voiced deep concern regarding the escalating number of Nigerians seeking refuge as displaced persons within their own country. He stressed that this situation is unacceptable and called for immediate government intervention.
The attackers had invaded over 15 communities in Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi Local Government Areas on Christmas Eve, resulting in the tragic loss of more than 190 lives. The assailants set numerous houses ablaze, looted farm produce, and caused extensive destruction.
