The Niger State Police have announced the arrest of approximately five suspected armed robbers. The suspects were armed with cutlasses and knives when they allegedly attacked a residence in the Top Medical area of Tunga, Minna.

During the incident, two victims were injured, and money and valuables were forcefully taken and stolen by the gang.

This information was disclosed in a Crime Bulletin issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state’s Police Command, DSP Wasiu Abiodun. The bulletin highlighted the recent robberies in various parts of the Minna metropolis.

According to the statement, on July 9, 2023, around 5:00 am, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Tundunwada Division received a report of an armed robbery incident that occurred around 2:00 am on the same day. The DPO mobilized and led his patrol team, utilizing technical intelligence. The team traced the suspects to a residence in Flamingo, Maitumbi, Minna.

Upon sighting the police team, the suspected robbers attempted to escape but were pursued and apprehended. Three of the suspects were identified as Anthony Ibrahim (25 years old), Abubakar Ibrahim (27 years old), and Mikhail Ibrahim (25 years old).

Additionally, two other individuals, Danjuma Ibrahim (58 years old) and James Ibrahim (19 years old), were arrested for allegedly receiving and concealing the stolen properties, as well as harbouring the robbery suspects.

During interrogation, the robbery suspects reportedly confessed to the crime and disclosed other robbery incidents the syndicate had carried out in different locations in Minna over the past two months, including Mandela, Brighter, Maitumbi, David Mark Road, Mobile Quarters, and Farm Center areas. More than ten victims of their robberies have identified the syndicate, and some of the stolen properties have been recovered.

Recovered exhibits include a sum of N215,000, 102,000 Francs CFA, 4,000 Korean WON, 13 handsets, a computer laptop, three wristwatches, an axe, a knife, a nail bar, a saw, an iron cutter, a pair of scissors, a plier, an MP3 player, and six caps, along with other clothing materials.

The suspects are currently under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna. The police assured the public that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate who are still at large.
