The police command in Ekiti State has arrested three suspects, including an ex-convict, for armed robbery, kidnapping, and murder in the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) DSP Sunday Abutu, in a statement on Sunday, said the three suspects were arrested at different locations over the recent security breaches in the state, especially attacks on Point of Sale (PoS) agents, killing and kidnapping of residents.
According to him, one of the three suspects is Omowaye Ayodele, also known as Baba Ogbon, who was jailed for kidnapping and released from prison in May this year. He was apprehended in Akure, Ondo State.
The others are Ojo Temidayo, A.K.A Yellow and Busarí Lookman, A.K.A Abbey
He revealed that the three suspects confessed to have robbed and killed a middle-aged woman, Aina Adeyemi, around the Federal Polytechnic Satellite campus in the state capital on July 6, 2024, and made away with a sum of N155,000 from the deceased.
The PPRO added that Ayodele also participated in the kidnapping and killing of a former deputy vice chancellor of the Ekiti State University (EKSU), Professor Femi Olaofe.
Abutu said, “He stated that he was arrested in 2015 for kidnapping, imprisoned, and was released recently on May 24, 2024, after completing his jail term.
“Omowaye Ayodele confessed also that he and his gang members have attacked and robbed different Point of Sale (POS) operators at different locations in Ado-Ekiti, such as Bawa Estate Area and Better Life Area, amongst others.
“Ojo Temidayo, a.k.a. Yellow, also confessed that he is an Indian hemp seller and a fraudster.
“The suspects arrested are currently undergoing investigation and shall be arraigned accordingly, while effort is ongoing to arrest the fleeing member of the gang who is allegedly in the custody of the arms they use for their operations.”
