… as Governor’s Aide refutes report, says OBA’s Aide’s assertions, pre-planned, lies

…threatens legal action over false report

Governor Udom Emmanuel’s Aide, Rev. Richard Peters, has countered claims by Senator Bassey Albert’s Media Aide, Anny Michael, that he took to XL FM to criticize A’Ibom serving Senators over their position on the Petroleum Industry Bill(PIB) recently passed into law.

This was contained in a statement signed by Rev Peters on Monday, August 23, 2021, where he described the assertion by Anny Michael as outrightly false and obviously pre-planned to destroy his image in the minds of right thinking members of Uyo Senatorial District and to cost him his job.

The Cleric made it known that at no time has he made any appearance on XL 106.5 FM during its breakfast current affairs programme “Press Club” not to say sit as analyst on the said programme on August 21, 2021 as falsely circulated.

The Statement reads in part: ” I have been confronted by series of inquiries, bothering on a media attack on my person by Senator Bassey Albert’s media aide, Anny Michaels bothering on an interview he claims I granted on XL FM, Uyo on Saturday August 21,2021.

” In a release, which Mr Michaels signed and published in several social media platforms, he deliberately and mischievously accused me falsely of lampooning the Akwa Ibom National Assembly members and blaming them on their position on the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) recently passed by the 9th Senate and signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari.

“It is really unfortunate that such a high media personality who serves the leader of the State caucus in the national assembly, would rush to dissipate his energy on a veil attack on me, in a manner that leaves one to conclude that this is a premeditated swipe, which may have been geared towards heating up the polity and bringing about distractions.

“It is also unfortunate that everyone who wishes to be seen as busy, usually views attacks against Governor Udom Emmanuel’s media aides as the easiest avenue.

” Ordinarily, this, like many other such cooked up campaigns of falsehood, could have been ignored, except that it could evokes deep meanings, judging from the source. That is why I deem it necessary to come out publicly to appeal to the gullible public that such antics by Anny and his sponsors should be completely ignored, dismissed and trashed in the dustbin of history.

” But for record purpose, it must be noted that I, Rev. Richard Peters never appeared on XL 106.9FM on the said date, time and programme (Press Club), and have never made any public comments on the PIB for that matter.

Making added clarifications on the misinformed claims, the Governor’s Aide said, “I am both an ordained priest of the most High God, and a media aide to His Excellency the Governor, and my responsibility is to promote and publicize the lofty programmes of my boss, the Governor.

“I couldn’t have gone out to attack any lawmaker from my state, nor comment on the Petroleum Industry Act, which I have not yet really taken time to study. This is why I believe that this media attack against me is geared towards my being viewed with disdain by members of my senatorial district, which Senator Bassey Albert represents in the red chambers.

Highlighting more negative implications of the false allegation on his person, he stressed, ” It is also capable of making me seen as a disloyal supporter of the PDP, or even cost me my place in the media team of His Excellency the Governor, who never authorised us to speak on the PIA.”

He called for a retraction of the ill-conceived claims with an apology within 24 hours of publishing the true state of things, noting that failure to retract with apology will lead to legal action against the Senator’s media aide.

Similarly, Rev Osondu Ahirika, one of the Panelists on “Press Club” has described the media attack on the Governor’s Aide as very unfortunate, misinformed and unguarded.

Commenting on the development when this reporter contacted him, he stated that, “It’s obvious my brother Annie Michael never listened to the programme in question where I was a Panelist.

“Rev. Richard has never appeared on the programme.
The Distinguished Senator Bassey Albert was never also attacked on the programme either.

” He should have reached out to have the facts since it is obvious he never listened to the programme.”
