The Ondo State Government on Monday said it has promoted no fewer than 6,106 workers in the state civil service, while 1,843 new workers have been employed in the service.

According to the government, the new workers were recruited in the education, engineering and health sectors while the promotion of workers took place across all the ministries, departments and agencies of the government.

The state Head of Service, Mr Niran Adeyemo stated this in Akure the state capital while speaking with journalists on the activities to mark the 2021 Public Service Day celebration, stated for Tuesday 24 and Wednesday 25, August 2021.

He said the recent promotion and recruitment exercises came about following the approval of the state governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu.

He said, “The government has promoted a total of 6,128 workers in the civil service. Some of the workers have collected their promotion letter , while some are still collecting their now. We have also recruited 1,200 teachers who have undergone training.

“We have also recently employed 18 qualified engineers into the Ministry of Works to work in the ongoing infrastructural projects across the state. About 625 primary health workers have also been recruited and they had been sent to the 18 local government areas of the state . The few ones that are on temporary appointments have had their appointment regularised.”

On the issue of the alleged irregularities in the staff salaries, the HOS explained that the government pays salaries of workers based on the amount that came to the state as allocation, expressing assurance that the matter would soon be resolved.

He commended Governor Akeredolu Administration for taking the welfare of the civil servants as a top priority.

“Recall that this administration inherited seven-month unpaid salaries and allowances. Within a space of about two years, the salary backlogs are almost completely cleared, leaving only a month. To date, the promotions of all eligible officers are being effected and works are in progress for the 2022 promotion exercise,” he noted.

Adeyemo called on the workers to eschew unprofessional practices and to give their best on their beats, saying, “Our motto in our reform effort ‘to do my best for a better society’ should be strictly adhered to. To whom much is given, much is required!”
