A family of six people including a mother, Alhaqatu Abdulkarim, and her five children, tragically lost their lives after consuming a local delicacy in Karkari village, Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State.

Yakubu Danazumi, the Ward Head of Karkari village, confirmed the details during a phone interview on Sunday.

“We have buried the victims according to Islamic rites, and we will observe the seven-day prayer for all of them this coming Tuesday,” Danazumi said.

He also mentioned that the father had passed away about seven months ago, leaving the widow with her five children, while the second wife had six children.

The deceased were identified as 35-year-old Alhaqatu Abdulkarim (Mother), Usman Abdulkarim (9years), Fiddausi Abdulkarim (11years), Hafsa Abdulkarim (7years), Jamilu Abdulkarim (4years ), and Bashari Abdulkarim (19years).

The Kano State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed that an investigation has been initiated to determine the cause of death.

Reports suggest that the incident occurred last Thursday after the widow, who was responsible for her five children, used expired cassava flour to prepare the meal.
