He stated that initial investigations showed the suspects had abducted a female victim from Angwan-Gwanda village in Rijau within the past month, but she was able to escape from their captivity.
The victim was able to recognise one of the suspects, which eventually resulted in the apprehension of the other individuals involved.
“The suspects confessed to the crime and they are under investigation. All will be charged in court for prosecution after the investigations,” Abiodun disclosed.
In another operation, he revealed that police operatives stopped a trailer truck with the registration number NDG 161 XA at Garima Junction, Bosso, which was found to be transporting 900 bags of cement valued at more than N9 million.
He mentioned that the cement was believed to have been diverted from its original destination in Maiduguri, Borno State.
“During interrogation, the suspect confessed that he was a motor boy to the driver of the truck, Ibrahim Yusuf, who is at large, that they conspired with one other and removed the truck with intent to sell the cement, abandon the truck and escape before he was arrested,” Abiodun stated.
The police spokesperson also revealed that the suspect was arraigned in court on April 9th on charges of criminal conspiracy and theft. Following the trial, he was sentenced to ten months in prison without the option of a fine.
“Efforts are ongoing to arrest and prosecute the driver at large. The cement truck was released to the company’s representative through a court order,” he added.
