Former militant leader and prominent figure in the Niger Delta, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, better known as Tompolo, has publicly reassured that Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, will return to office.

This statement came nearly a month after the declaration of a state of emergency in the state, which led to Fubara’s suspension.

Tompolo made the announcement during his 54th birthday celebration at the Aziza Temple on Sunday in Gbaramatu Kingdom, where he addressed several political issues and concerns surrounding his community.

Tompolo refuted accusations that his earlier silence on the political crisis in Rivers was a betrayal of the Ijaw nation, reaffirming his lifelong dedication to his people.

“People say I betrayed the Ijaw nation for not speaking about the removal of Governor Fubara. But I cannot betray the Ijaw people, i have spent my entire life fighting for them

The Egbesu Chief Priest also highlighted the ongoing dialogue between Fubara and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, suggesting that a resolution was in the works.

Tompolo expressed his belief that the dispute would be settled soon and assured his audience that Fubara would resume his duties as governor.

“I have sat on the throne of my father, and all that is lost will be restored. The Ijaw people will never be conquered.

“If we choose to go to war, even the heavens will support us. I have never fought and lost a battle,” Tompolo said with conviction, reinforcing his belief in the strength and unity of the Ijaw people.

Tompolo concluded with a call for unity within the Ijaw nation and emphasised the importance of resolving internal divisions.

His assurance that Fubara would return to office reflects his faith in peaceful resolutions through dialogue, emphasising that the time for division is over and the focus should be on collective progress.
