The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has officially announced the date for the upcoming local government elections, which will take place on July 12, 2025.
This election will cover all 20 local governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) across the state.

According to a statement issued by LASIEC’s Head of Public Affairs, Tope Stephen on Saturday, the electoral process has now begun with the release of the election notice.

The notice marks the official start of the process, leading to the election of new chairmen and councilors in the state.
The commission has emphasised that the current local government administration’s tenure is nearing its conclusion, which has necessitated the scheduling of this election.
Political parties will be allowed to kick off their campaigns and rallies starting April 18, 2025, and these activities will run until July 9, 2025.
This campaign period gives candidates ample time to reach voters before the election day. If necessary, a run-off or re-run election will take place on July 19, 2025.
Additionally, political parties have been given a window between June 18 and June 25, 2025, to submit nomination forms for any substituted or sole candidates.
The statement reads: “Pursuant to Section 21(I) of Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission Law 2008 (as amended), the Commission has released Notice of Election into the Office(s) of Chairmen and Councilors of Twenty (20) Local government areas, Thirty-Seven (37) Local Council Development Areas and Three Hundred and Seventy-Six (376) Wards of Lagos State
“The Chairman of the Commission Hon. Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile (rtd) assures of the level plain ground for all the Political Parties and promises the electorate of the determination of the Commission to conduct free, fair, inclusive and credible election in line with the best international standard.”
