Grade A Customary Court, Oja Oba, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State has adjourned till November 24, further hearing on the divorce suit brought before it by a man, Ojo Olawale against his wife, Florence Olawale whom he accused of being quarrelsome, violent and in the habit of raining curses on him and their children.
Ojo told the court that his wife denied him sex and no sexual relationship held between him and his wife for 22 years out of the 51 years they were married.
According to him, his wife was in the habit of grabbing and pulling his manhood anytime they fought.
The plaintiff told the court he had endured his wife’s atrocities enough and thus prayed the court to end their relationship.
Ojo pleaded for an order restraining his wife from coming to his house to fight him or interfere with his private life.
Florence who was present in court on the first hearing of the case denied all the allegations brought against her.
She also refused that their union be dissolved.
The defendant was absent during the second hearing.
Ojo in his testimony said that, “My lord, I am tired of my wife.
“She is contentious in nature and has denied me rest of mind since I got married to her.
“I hardly enjoyed any intimacy with her. She is nasty and too cold for comfort.
“Our home rather than being a haven was always on fire as a result my wife’s callous behaviour.
“My lord, Florence and I did not have sex for 22 years out of the 51 years of our marriage.
“Florence never listened to my advice nor took instructions from me.
“She always insisted on having her way.
“I endured her atrocities for more than five decades that we are married, but I have reached my tethered end.
“My wife was once married, but she started living with me after she left her former husband.
“We did not carry out any marital rites and I did not pay her bride price.
“My wife argued a lot and would never agree she was wrong.
“She would end up fighting me after we have had a heated argument.
“Florence was fond of shouting on top of her voice any time we had a misunderstanding which always infuriated our neighbours.
“Our neighbours had therefore learnt over the years to stay clear from my wife since she was a troublemaker.
“Florence is a busybody and as such has no good reputation in our neighbourhood.
“My wife rather than occupy herself with her duties in the home, would go from house to house spreading rumours and fables.
“Many learnt to shut their doors in her face.
“Florence usually went wild and uncontrollable when fighting me.
“She would hold on to my trousers as if I was a criminal and would refuse to let me go.
“She once locked our iron door, grabbed and pulled my manhood during a fight. She almost killed me before I had the chance to escape from our apartment.
“I later got her arrested by the police.
“At another time she drew a knife at me.
“I was sitting at the dining table when she rushed out of the kitchen with a knife which she brandished at me.
“I jumped out of the chair I was sitting in and took to my heels.
“Florence looking fierce ran after me.
“We both ran round the dining area for up to 10 minutes before the knife fell from her hand.
“My wife failed in her duties towards our children and ruined their lives.
“Florence was in the habit of raining curses not only on me, but also our children, thus truncating their destinies.
“My peace and rest was restored after she left my house and moved in her own house two years ago.
“But Florence being a troublemaker still sought for an excuse to cause me distress.
“She phoned me during the last presidential election that she wanted to come and stay in my house so that she could cast her vote since she did her registration while living with me.
“I refused that she came, but I later changed my mind.
“I gave her my terms in order that her excesses would be curtailed, but Florence nagged and complained throughout the night she came and refused that I slept.
“Our family members have constantly mediated in our differences, but all their efforts yielded nothing.
“My lord, I have reached my tethered end.
“ I beg this honourable court to dissolve my marriage to my wife.
“I also plead for an order restraining her from coming to my house hence forth to threaten, fight or interfere with my private life.”
The president of the court, Mrs S.M Akintayo after she has heard the plaintiff adjourned the case and ordered that a fresh hearing notice be issued and served the defendant.
