A woman, Rukayat Lawal has sought the dissolution of her marriage to her husband, Gbola Muslim at Grade A Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State on the accounts of irresponsibility and constant battery by the latter.

Rukayat explained that Gbola failed in his responsibility towards her as the head of the home and breadwinner for the eleven months they lived together.

According to her, all that her husband knew to do was to drink, get drunk, pounce on her and beat her blue black.

The plaintiff stated that the defendant later threw her belongings out.

Rukayat therefore begged the court to end their relationship.

Gbola was absent in court despite being served court summonses.

Rukayat in her evidence explained that, “My husband and I had a traditional wedding in October 2019 after we met and courted for some months.

“He did not pay my bride price.

“I never knew I had traded away my joy the moment I agreed to marry my husband.

“The wool was pulled off my eyes immediately I started living with my husband.

“Gbola is nothing but a reckless human being. This was the cause of the crises we experienced early in our marriage.

“My husband never believed it was his duty to make provision for feeding and the running of our home.

“He always claimed to be the head of the home, but was never ready to back his claim with proof.

“He was just a figurehead.

“Gbola never for once gave me feeding allowance. I fed the home from the meager gains I made from my business.

“He claimed to be the breadwinner, but he never for once came home with a loaf of bread.

“My husband has no shame. He felt comfortable eating the food I prepared with my hard earned money without showing any gratitude.

“My husband felt fulfilled any time he drank himself to stupour.

“Gbola could spend a fortune on alcohol, but would always complain of paucity of fund any time I demanded that he should be up to his responsibility in the home.

“He would lose his head when drunk and beat me to a pulp.

“I have scars from his beatings all over my body.

“He threw out my belongings after physically assaulting me for 11 months.

“My lord, all I got from my marriage to my husband was bitterness and regrets.

“I pray the court to dissolve our union so that I can move on with my life.

The court president, Mrs S.M Akintayo, adjourned the case and ordered that a fresh hearing notice be issued and served the defendant.
