Ekiti Doctors To Commence Strike Friday Midnight Over Alleged Poor Welfare

The Ekiti State Government has launched the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project to enhance adolescent girls education in the state.

The official launch of the AGILE Project was performed by the wife of the Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

According to the wife of the governor, the project is aimed at supporting the efforts of the state government towards enhancing the academic, digital and life skills of adolescents in the state.

While acknowledging the advocacy and awareness campaign of the project and her office, she disclosed that not fewer than 100 secondary schools in the state will receive laptops and other intervention projects.

She said,  “I want to reiterate that AGILE Project is designed to respond to the challenges that constraint Adolescent girls in completing secondary education. I’m glad that the project is supporting the state’s efforts to enhance the academic, digital and life skills of our adolescents which gives the assurance that we are grooming a mass of adequately equipped youths who are globally ready.

“Today, 910 laptops will be distributed to 35 secondary schools and additional 1,690 will be distributed to 65 secondary schools in the next two months.

“I must acknowledge the advocacy and awareness campaign of my office and that of the AGILE Project have immensely improved the perception of some members of our society towards the girl-child education. I therefore exercise the need for everyone to play an active role in the implementation of the AGILE Project.”

In the same vein, the Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Chief Monisade Afuye, enjoined AGILE to carry out advocacy on unwanted teenage pregnancy among girls while urging the students to take good advantage of the programme.

Afuye said: “I enjoined AGILE to carry out serious advocacy on unwanted teenage pregnancy among our girls. I implore our secondary school girls to take good advantage of what this programme offers.

“I urge you to utilise the laptops for learning. Remember, we are looking at you with high expectations as our future leaders.”

Speaking at the event, Representative of the National Project Coordinator, AGILE, Mrs Ajanigo Abuka applauded Ekiti State for being the first to launch the programme at the state level.

Abuja said, “Ekiti State has taken the lead for being the first at the state level to launch the programme. I urge the relevant stakeholders to support the project to the beneficiaries who are in dire need of the intervention.

“Ekiti State has made giant strides towards the project. I commend the government and people of Ekiti State for the support to the AGILE Project and I wish the state huge success going forward.”
