The Registrar/Chief Executive of the National Examinations Council (NECO), Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, has instituted an award to encourage a culture of excellence through healthy competition among staff and students.

Prof. Wushishi stated this while delivering an address at the maiden edition of the Annual Productivity Awards ceremony, celebrating candidates who have excelled in each of the examinations conducted by the Council over the weekend in Minna.

Professor Wushishi added that the occasion would not have been possible without the immense contribution of the NECO Board, whose wise counsel, robust deliberations, and support led to the award ceremony, saying, “we remain eternally grateful to them and pray that God rewards them abundantly.”

He stressed that the award would serve as a motivating factor and a morale booster for the staff and students, inspiring them to strive towards greatness and self-improvement.

The NECO Boss pointed out that the overall aim of introducing the award is to enhance the quality and effectiveness of the services rendered by the council.

According to him, the first edition features awardees for 2022 and 2023 under the following categories: Good Governance Award, Best State Coordinator of the Year Award, Most Hardworking and Dedicated Staff of the Year in each department, State and Zonal Offices Award.

Others include the Best Driver Award, Best Performing Students (male and female) in SSCE (Internal) (2022 and 2023), BECE (2022 and 2023), NCEE (2022 and 2023), including Gifted (2023), as well as Certificates of Service to Retirees (2022 and 2023), respectively.

Prof. Wushishi also seized the occasion to institute a Scholarship Award for the best candidates in the National Gifted Examination, National Entrance Examination (NCEE), and the Basic Education Examination (BECE), called ‘Registrar’s Award for Excellence,’ assuring that NECO would take responsibility for registering these best candidates for their Basic Education Certificate Examination and Senior Secondary Certificate Examination.

He said, “It is our prayer that we make this an annual event, as might be determined by the strength of our finances,” just as he expressed the hope that the aim for which the Productivity Award is established will be achieved.

In a separate interview with Ahmed Isah of Brekete Radio and Television (aka Ordinary President) at the venue, he urged the Federal Government to include the National Examinations Council (NECO) in the monthly subvention enjoyed by other examination bodies in the country.

He said even though NECO generates internal revenue to organize examinations and logistics involved, a lot of money is highlighting that, especially now that their certificates are recognized worldwide, the federal government should include them in monthly subventions to enable them to boost their activities nationwide.

Ahmed Berekete stated further that “with what he had seen and the number of capital projects embarked upon so far,” emphasizing that, supposed there is a level playing field, NECO would have done better than what it is presently doing, just as he commended the Registrar/CEO, NECO, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi for a job well done.
