Four suspected child traffickers operating around internally displaced persons camp in Makurdi, Benue State capital have been apprehended by police.
The suspects were said to be specialist in trafficking children around IDP camp at North Bank, a suburb of Makurdi.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer for the command, Catherine Anene on Wednesday and made available to newsmen in Makurdi gave the names of the suspects to include; Member Friday who is the Kingpin’s wife and accomplice, Stephen Terungwa, Sughter Akegh and Atom Gideon and added that the Kingpin identified as Friday escaped to an unknown destination.
“During the interview session, suspects confessed to have recruited pregnant girls who gave birth and handed over to one Friday, the kingpin who has been on the run.
“They were paid one hundred and fifty thousand naira (N150,000) for each pregnancy that was delivered.
“One child that was earlier reported missing by his parents at Saudi police Division was also rescued from the house of the said kingpin.
“The command however advised members of the public to ensure that their children are in safe places at all times, especially during these holidays,” the statement read.
