Police kill 2 kidnappers, 2 others escape in Anambra

Anambra State Police Command have said that Joint Security Operatives in the state killed two kidnap suspects, while two others escaped in Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state, and not four as reported by the State Government.

The Anambra Government through the state governor, Chukwuma Soludo’s Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, in a statement said four suspected kidnappers were killed and others arrested in the operation.

But the state police command spokesman, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, while confirming the incident in a statement, said the operative on routine operations intercepted a gang of four operating in an unregistered black Lexus SUV after a gun battle two were gunned down, while two other escaped.

Items recovered from them include two locally made explosives, one Ak47 rifle, nine live 7.62 ammunition, four Ak47 magazines, Charms and other incriminating items.

The PRO said the killing followed credible information to the Police Command from the public.

 According to him,there are so many joint operations ongoing in the state with the security forces, especially the vigilantes aimed at sustaining and enhancing safety in the State.

He said that the joint operations have yielded major successes in the state and would be sustained.

 “The operatives, during the gun duel with the criminals, demobilized two of the gang members, while two others escape. Efforts are already emplaced to arrest other fleeing gang members,” he said

Meanwhile, the security Operatives at Azu Ogbunike Oyi LGA arrested another gang of armed robbery/vandals in the act.

The suspects were arrested while vandalizing a truck suspected to have been stolen.

The suspects are one Nwusulor Fidelis aged 51years, Iloegunam Amobi, aged 44years, Solomon Akpagu aged 51 years and Chidiebere Innocent aged 28 years.

According to the command spokesman DSP Ikenga Tochukwu,they have confessed to the crime and they are currently helping the police with information on other syndicate members that dispossess innocent drivers of their trucks before bringing them to their criminal hideout at Azu Ogbunike.
