Some Nigerians have taken to social media to berate the Nigerian police force over their plan to investigate popular skit maker, Abdulgafar Abiola, better known as Cute Abiola, for what the force tagged as an ‘offensive’ portrayal of their image.

In a statement released today by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the force described its portrayal by the comedian as offensive, highly disrespectful, and derogatory, adding that he will be investigated.

The plan to investigate the skit maker, however, did not sit well with some netizens who believe that the Force lacks the moral justification to condemn the comedian’s portrayal of them.

Reacting to the development on Twitter, a user, @therealseylom wrote, “See who dey talk about Integrity.”

Another user, @MyrorMiller tweeted, “Una no fit condemn the act because nah so una be, nah to use this excuse to get the guy for using his art to expose una for wetin una be.”

“He gave an apt representation of what your men do on the roads. You guys should talk to your men to stop asking for bribes, there is a reason why American and British Policemen are well-respected, they have self-respect. Respect is EARNED.” @Olanrewaju_sd opined.

@SimplyTEEWHY wrote, “But you and I know that is the true state of the average Nigerian policeman. You don’t have a problem with your men exhibiting those actions. You only get worried when non-officers show the world what they actually do.”

“This must be a joke, right? The skit depicts what the Nigeria Police is known for (bribery, extortion, and intimidation). There is nothing new in what Cute Abiola showed here. Just a few days ago, we saw how a DPO was threatening to send @Omojuwa to jail for standing against him.” @MMBaloo tweeted.
