Suspected armed herdsmen killed three internally displaced persons in Agagbe, Gwer West local government area of Benue State, on Monday.
The displaced persons were ambushed by suspected herders while they were fishing in a community near the camps in Agagbe.
Terna Jacob, the camp chairman, reported that the victims had gone fishing at Gbange/Tomgov council ward when they were attacked and killed. Their bodies were later recovered and buried.
He stated, “Yesterday (Monday) morning, Iorhemba Cletus, 37 years old, of block 2 room 2 of IDP camp Agagbe, left for Gbange/Tomgov council ward together with two others to fish so they could sell and acquire food and other necessities for their families.
However, the armed Fulani herders ambushed and killed them. Their bodies were later found and buried.”
The other two victims were identified as Akaa Clifford, 50 years old, and Igbahemba Abua, 55 years old.
Jacob added, “Akaa Clifford was planning to use the proceeds to provide food and settle the medical bills of his sick wife.”
Catherine Anene, the spokesperson for Benue State Police Command, stated that she had not yet received the report.
