A total of 1,500 prospective Corps members, comprising 714 males and 786 females posted to Anambra state took the oath of allegiance at the NYSC permanent Orientation Camp, Umuawulu/Mbaukwu in Awka South Local Government Area of the state, on Tuesday.

The corps members were administered an oath of allegiance during the swearing-in ceremony by the state Chief Judge, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu.

Anambra NYSC State Coordinator Mrs. Blessing Iruma while addressing the corps members appreciated the support of the state government and the host communities, stating that the national focus for the youth appears to be on the acquisition of skills, owing to the scarcity of white-collar jobs and as such, the NYSC has risen to the occasion with the introduction of Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED, programme.

Iruma urged the corps members to adjust to the new camp environment by participating actively in camp activities.

Chief of staff, Mr Ernest Ezeajughi who represented the State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo charged the corps members to shun cultism, drug addiction, substance abuse, cyber crime, kidnapping and other negative tendencies which he said destroy the society and those who engage in them.

He called on law enforcement agents, traditional rulers, religious leaders and town unions to join hands in the vigorous campaigns to stamp out the vices in the society.

Acknowledging the immense contributions of the scheme to the development of society, particularly in the areas of education, health, agriculture and rural infrastructure, Governor Soludo pledged continued support to the activities of the scheme in the state.

Welcoming the Corps members to Anambra state, the Chairman of the NYSC governing board, Anambra state who is also the state Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr Patrick Agha Mba acquainted them with some of the things Anambra is made up of and known for, advising them to obey camp rules and pay attention to all the teachings and trainings in the camp.
