Arthur Jarvis University, the first licensed private university in Cross River State, held its convocation ceremony on Saturday, April 8, 2023.

A total of 240 students successfully graduated from the institution, marking a significant milestone for the university.

During the ceremony, the management of the university urged the young graduates to take responsibility for their communities by helping to clean up the mess in society.

To demonstrate their commitment to this call, the graduates were asked to pull off their sleeves and participate in the cleaning exercise.

Addressing the graduates, the University Chancellor, Sir Arthur Javis Archibong, emphasized that the university is not a rehabilitation centre for drug users, unruly students, and cultists.

He expressed disappointment in parents who neglect their responsibilities and allow society to shape their children’s behaviour.

“I have come to a rather distasteful conclusion that not all parents deserve to be so-called. When you renege on your responsibility and allow society to mould your children into what they become, you not only fail your children but also fail society,” he said.

In recognition of the outstanding academic performances of some of the graduates, the University Vice-chancellor, Professor Ani Nkang, announced that several prizes would be awarded to deserving students.

According to Professor Nkang, the breakdown of the graduands’ categories is as follows: 18 students graduated with first-class honours, 115 earned second-class upper division, while 91 graduands earned second-class lower division. Notably, 161 of the graduates earned their class grades.

The convocation ceremony was a momentous occasion for the Arthur Jarvis University community, marking a new chapter in the institution’s history and a testament to its commitment to academic excellence.
