Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has called on the incoming administration to facilitate national moral rearmament and reconciliation, following the divisiveness of the just-concluded elections.

Speaking at a conference themed “From Elections to Governance and Performance,” organised by Nextier and the Ibadan School of Governance and Public Policy in Abuja on Thursday.

Obasanjo, who noted that he was “too old to keep quiet” in the face of the challenges facing Nigeria, called on the government to take bold and decisive steps to tackle the country’s plunging economy and huge national debt burden.

He stressed that governance in Nigeria now requires thinking outside the box and political will to reform the public service, turn it into a capability-ready unit and rescue the nation from its current state.

The former president also emphasised the need for national healing and reconciliation to address the anger of Nigerian youths who were let down by the shortcomings of the elections.

He urged the incoming administration to take appropriate steps to bring about healing and assuage the concerns of the citizens.
