A 30-year-old graduate of Architecture from Federal Polytechnics, Nekede took his own life in his village, Umuohii, Oboama community.

His body was found on Monday evening after he had participated in the village’s manual labour earlier in the day.

Despite being involved in community activities, there were no obvious signs of Nerus being depressed. He was found hanging in his room, and the reason behind his actions remains unknown.

A source mentioned that Nerus seemed healthy and active during the morning village work.

He said, “The young man, Nerus, is from Umuohii Village in Oboama Ezinihitte Mbaise Imo State. He took his own life yesterday (Monday) evening.

“The reason for his action is unknown to anybody.

“He is a graduate of Architecture from the Federal Polytechnic in Nekede. Until yesterday (Monday) morning, he was very healthy and participated in the village youth manual labour.

“Later that same yesterday (Monday) evening, his body was found hanging in his bedroom.”

 

The source explained, “Nerus Chinaechenwa Elemamba, second son of late Mr Cajethan Elemamba, was yesterday (Monday) evening found dead, hanging himself in his own room.

“Nerus participated in the youth manual labour work yesterday (Monday) morning, looking very healthy before the unfortunate scenario occurred.”

 

The village youth leader, Iheukwumere Ibeh, expressed shock over the incident and mentioned that cultural rituals were being performed before Nerus’s burial.

Nerus was not married, left no note explaining his actions, and there seems to be no clear reason for the tragic event.

He said, “This is shocking. Nobody knows the reason for his actions. He didn’t leave any note behind. He was not married. He is between 30 and 31 years of age. He was not taken to a mortuary. He is being buried as we speak. This is after the required cultural rituals to appease the land have been carried out.”

The police spokesperson, Henry Okoye, has not been briefed on the incident, leaving the circumstances surrounding Nerus Elemamba’s death unclear.
