Broderick was born in Benin city, Edo state on July 9 1938. He attended St John Primary School, Onitsha and Bishop Shenahan College Orlu where he obtained his West African Schools Certificate in 1960.
His debut as a footballer was in 1956; when he played for Onitsha team in the Challenge Cup. He joined Electricity Corporation of Nigeria Football Club of Lagos, (ECN, FC) where played from 1962 to 1970. He won the National Challenge Cup for the ECN in 1965.
He is popularly called “Sabara”. In 1973, he coached the Mid-Western U-13 team that won the Gold medal in the first National Sports Festival in Lagos.
He became a full fledged coach in 1985 and led Golden Eaglets to win the inaugural U-17 World Cup in 1985. He represented Nigeria at the Mexico Olympic Games in 1968.
As the Chief coach of the national U-16 team for the FIFA World Youth Championship in China; he won a trophy for Nigeria and Africa after beating Germany 2-0 in the final.
