Nationnewslead reports that Association of Resident Doctors in Nasarawa State have shut down Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, Lafia as they proceed on a three-day warning strike over the “harsh and strange” policies of the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Hassan Ikrama.
The three days warning strike was announced in a communique by the President, Dr. Moses Joshua, General Secretary Dr. Molokwu Okechukwu, and the Public Relations Officer, Dr. Stanley Nwugo.
The communique was issued at the end of the resident doctors’ emergency congress meeting held on February 5, 2021, at the ARD Lounge in Lafia on Sunday.
The Resident Doctors are demanding that the management should unconditionally and with immediate effect reverse the suspension of the Residency Training Programme in DASH.
The management was also asked to provide standard and adequate PPEs to healthcare workers in DASH, reinstate members who are on supernumerary postings and have been recalled from other training institutions.
The communique added, “We shall commence a three-day warning strike from Monday, February 8, 2021, while giving the management an ultimatum of 14 days,  within which to address our issues, failure of which will result in a total and indefinite strike at the expiration of two weeks ultimatum”.
Responding to the allegations, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Hassan Ikrama, declared that any doctors that refuse to come to work and attend to patients would not have his or her salary paid.
According to him, within the eight years of the former CMD, only six doctors were sent on training, while within the two years he had spent as the CMD of the hospital six doctors were sent on training.
“No work, no pay to any striking doctor in DASH. When I was appointed as the CMD at DASH,  only 75 doctors are here but within two years that I spent in the hospital the numbers have increased to 109 as of January 2021,” he added.
