Brigadier-General Yusha’u Ahmed, the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has encouraged the 2024 Batch ‘A stream 1’ corps members to embrace their postings with positivity.

He conveyed this message during the closing ceremony of the orientation camp held on Wednesday.

Addressing the corps members, he urged them to accept their assignments with an open mind and integrate themselves into their designated communities, emphasizing the importance of contributing to their development. He discouraged them from seeking redeployment.

The Director General, represented by Alhaji Usman Yakubu Yaro, the NYSC Coordinator for Sokoto State, emphasized the significance of respecting the culture and traditions of their host communities.

He urged the corps members to maintain peace and resilience while actively adding value to the communities where they are stationed.

Also, he expressed confidence that many of them would choose to remain in their assigned communities even after completing their service.

“Also take your security seriously. Take time to read the instructions in your manual and abide by them accordingly. Your security is our concern, but no one can secure you more than yourself.”

He emphasized the need to develop skills and encourage an entrepreneurial mindset inside the Scheme, Ahmed urged corps members to seize the chance to become self-sufficient and become job and wealth creators after their service year.

“Skills acquisition is designed to make you independent, self-reliance and productive. Federal government is out to ensure youths are supported and empowered so they can stand on their own.

“Thousands of your predecessors who maximize the opportunity are now independent. Many enjoyed several of such government support in collaboration with private organisations, including soft loans provided at no interest.”

He implored them not to meddle in local politics of the people stressing that the purpose of their posting is to impact positively in the lives of their host communities.

He urged them to be enterprising and use social media only for the promotion of national unity and other positive purposes.
