Two first-class traditional rulers in Adamawa state, HRH Kuruhaye Dishon Dansanda II, Kwandi Nunguraya, and HRM Biyapo Bwaltam Bently Mboiman II, Murum Mbula, have commended the activities of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in curbing the menace of substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking in the country. They also called for enhanced partnership between the traditional institution and the Agency.

The monarchs spoke during their courtesy visit to Brig-Gen Mohammed Marwa (Rtd), the chairman and chief executive officer of the NDLEA, in Abuja on Tuesday.

They emphasised that the traditional institution, as a respected system in society, must play an active and important role in the agency’s fight against the drug scourge, especially at the grassroots level, where they wield influential roles in communities under their control.

The traditional rulers commended the drug supply and drug demand reduction efforts of the agency, particularly the NDLEA Command in Adamawa state, which they support in various ways.

In response, Marwa expressed appreciation to the royal fathers for their visit, supporting the work of the agency, and seeking further collaboration.

He said, “As respected traditional rulers in your domains, we encourage you to continue partnering with our Commands around you to engage in advocacy and sensitisation of your subjects on the dangers of abusing and dealing in illicit substances.

“We have to work together to take this message to the communities and every nook and cranny of Nigeria,” Marwa stated, commending them for taking the bold step of identifying with and supporting the agency’s work.
